How design is influencing passenger experience

Marine interior and design experts will be gathering in Hamburg next month at the MARINE INTERIORS Cruise & Ferry Global Expo, powered by SMM, which is co-located with Seatrade Europe.

Two free-to-attend conference sessions focussing on ‘How design helps to convey, define or create brand identity’(September 11), and ‘How to design to comply’ (September 12) will feature insights and first-hand experiences from an impressive line up of speakers.

Joep Bollerman, operations manager Passenger Ship Support Centre, Lloyd’s Register; Tal Danai ceo of ArtLink; Marco de Jorio, president & ceo De Jorio Design; Antonio Di Nenno, lead architect, new buildings MSC Cruises; Timo Hogestraat junior partner for Partner Ship Design; Fredrik Johansson, part owner of Tillberg Design, David McCarthy, director of Marine Projects & Communication at AD Associates; Carl-Gustaf Rotkirch ceo Helsinki Shipyard and Trevor Young vp, newbuilding & refurbishment MSC Cruises will all be sharing their knowledge and experience.

Design has always been a fundamental consideration when designing luxury rooms for hotels – now the same standard of luxury and style is becoming a focus for cruise lines and interior designers.

Aesthetic inspiration from iconic hotels

Much of the luxury cruise industry is taking aesthetic inspiration from iconic hotels from around the globe, taking design cues from some of the finest designers and manufacturers to develop unique collaborations that can help evolve and revolutionise the ocean and river cruising offering.

Ritz-Carlton is launching its own luxury superyacht in February 2020, one of two newbuildings at Astillero Hijos de J. Barreras (HJB) in Vigo, Spain. Taking its unique style and service onto the sea, the brand has worked closely with Tillberg Design of Sweden, to develop a bespoke and exclusive experience for passengers.

Fredrik Johansson will be on the panel of speakers for the ‘How to design to comply’ conference session on September 12, 10:30 – 12:00, offering insight from his 25 years within the company into how he has managed some of the world’s most creative and prestigious marine projects, including his experience within private yachts, expedition ships and ocean liners.
